Kailua is a typical suburb spawned by post-war development and improved highways bringing thousands home from their workplaces in Honolulu because many see it as a great place to live. Kailua, which in Hawaiian means “two waters” (Hall, 1998), has many natural wonders such as the Mokulua Islands, the Kawai Nui Marshland and Mount Olomana. Kailua has many sacred ancient Hawaiian sites, many parks, playgrounds and beaches. Kailua is delineated by Neighborhood Board District 31 which has four sub districts: Sub district 1 Kailua Bay/Lanikai, Sub district2 Enchanted Lake, Sub district 3 Olomana, and Sub district 4 Aikahi/Kailua Town.
